What usually makes a page slow
Oversized images and video
A single uncompressed hero image can outweigh the rest of a page. Modern formats, correct dimensions and deferred loading cut that dramatically.

Website Speed Optimization: frequently asked questions
What are Core Web Vitals?
Three measurements Google uses to describe real-world page experience: Largest Contentful Paint (loading, 2.5 seconds or less is good), Interaction to Next Paint (responsiveness, 200 milliseconds or less) and Cumulative Layout Shift (visual stability, 0.1 or less). They're judged on real-user data at the 75th percentile.
Why is my PageSpeed Insights score different every time?
The score at the top is a lab simulation and varies between runs, devices and network conditions. The real-user field data, shown above it when your site has enough traffic, is what Google uses. We look at both and tell you which one a result comes from.
Can you guarantee a 90+ score or a ranking?
No, and be wary of anyone who does. We can remove the specific causes of slowness and show you the before and after, but scores depend on your content, hosting and visitors, and speed is only one factor in search rankings.
Do you optimize sites that someone else built?
Our work is built around sites on our stack. If your site was built elsewhere, tell us the address in the project form and we'll review it and say honestly whether a targeted tune-up, or a rebuild as part of a redesign, will serve you better.
Is speed included when you build a new site?
Yes. Performance optimization is part of every package — Essential through Signature — and Core Web Vitals work happens during the build, not afterward.
